From one engineering triumph to the next

The Korokoro Stream Dams in Belmont Regional Park, Lower Hutt are an early feat of Kiwi engineering. A scenic, 2.6 km loop track allows visitors to admire the cascading water and the natural bush surrounding. Repairing aging concrete pipes at the falls’ reservoir was always going to present challenges. Extensive scaffolding was needed to allow work to be completed safely on the very steep, bush-clad site and it had to be done in small increments with scaffolding being dismantled then re-assembled so work could progress. Tough weather conditions also played a part in progress. “The heavy rain on the project meant we had to manage risks carefully to make sure everything was completed safely,” said Charlene Stofberg, Project Engineer at TDG Environmental. CIPP lining from BurrowTech was chosen by TDG Environmental as the most practical pipe remediation option. Working manhole to manhole (five in all), Charlene said the CIPP lining, infused with resin, had the advantage of being easy to deploy in the small sections and very tricky terrain, close to the walkway. “And, as we could only fit 40m of liner in the inversion drum, we had to break this up in sections to be lined. The team had to line one day, then take everything down to the next point/manhole to line the next day. “It all worked really well for the site. Considering the challenges, the successful outcome was quite an achievement.”

It’s our mission to simplify the difficult. If you’re putting pipe rehabilitation projects in the ‘too hard basket’ you need BurrowTech.
