By-pass plug, Vauxhall sewer pump station upgrade (sewer bypass).
Working on a pumping station in a really tight space and next to a sensitive marine environment could be your worst nightmare.
But, working with Prime Fluid Management, their contractor, and the Dunedin City Council, BurrowTech came up with a great, and very successful, solution. An added benefit – it was fairly much plug (literally) and play for those hard at work on site.
Truan Powell, Research & Development Engineer, Prime Fluid Management, says effectively the DCC needed a temporary pumping station during the Vauxhall Sewer Pump Station upgrade. He says the brief was to move 150L/s of sewage for 1800m, without disruption using two BBA BA180 vacuum pumps connected with existing suction/discharge lines.
Dunedin has 78 wastewater pump stations. Scheduled work on them involves refurbishing and improving the performance of these pump stations including; replacing mechanical parts, increasing storage onsite to help reduce overflows and improving access / safety features for staff.
The reliability and ease and speed of deployment, of the hired BurrowTech LKTB300600 By-pass plug meant the Prime Fluid Management team could focus on getting their job done.
Truan says needing to connect a 300mm to a 200mm Bauer fitting “wasn’t that usual.
“It went very smoothly. We’d used other solutions in the past but this was nice and tidy. And everything was there, from the plug to the compressor and gauges as part of the set-up.
“We didn’t have to leave site to get anything. It was very straight forward. We’d definitely use it again.
“Set up was over and done within a day. I was stoked! It was really quick and definitely the best option.”
