90-year-old problems. 50 years more life!
Ninety years is a good effort for a stormwater pipe and box culvert. Now, with the help of Andrew Twentyman and the team from TDG Environmental and Brandenburger UV liners from BurrowTech, they should be good for another fifty years plus.
Planning paid off
Despite challenges, including working around tides, the Rocks Road, Nelson installation went smoothly and, in fact, came in under time. (Scheduled for two weeks, it was completed in a week and a half.) “The biggest part of any high profile project like this is the planning,” Andrew says.
Less disruption for residents and retailers
The Nelson site passes underneath a busy stretch of road and in front of a retail area meaning conventional excavation would’ve been very disruptive. “A trenchless solution was pretty helpful for the residents and retailers,” Andrew says.
He says the council made an excellent job of keeping the lines of communication open.
A first: a box-shaped UV liner
For BurrowTech and TDG this was the first time using a boxed UV Liner, 750mm high x 700mm wide at 9.8mm thick and 55 metres long. Planning was vital.
Under State Highway 6, and round a bend
Work had to go underneath New Zealand state highway 6 to meet with a second UV circular liner at 750mm diameter at 9.1mm thick and running 46 metres long. The trick with this was to navigate a bend in the centre of the pipe. Which was done successfully.
Supplied by BurrowTech the x2 Brandenburger UV liners were perfect for the job.
The thickness of both UV liners was driven by the structural requirement having the liners under and near SH6.
